During recent works inside one of the historic rooms at Nantclwyd y Dre, contractors carefully removed a layer of modern plaster and revealed something remarkable – a much earlier wall surface carrying post-medieval graffiti and a series of finely scored circular hexafoils.
These delicate discoveries offer a direct connection to the people who once lived and worked within these walls. Each mark, made by hand centuries ago is an important record of human interaction and belief preserved beneath later layers.
R. Moore Building Conservation has been entrusted with the task of consolidating the friable surface and stabilising the fragile plaster – filling in the modern fissures and ensuring that these traces remain visible and secure for generations to come.
This project is a reminder of how our work can shift seamlessly — from major conservation undertakings to moments of close containment and care, where attention to the smallest detail safeguards a much larger story.
