Some buildings wear their history lightly, changing with each new occupant, shaped by the hands of time. Others remain stubbornly unchanged, quietly holding their stories in place. One building that we are working on in the Vale of Clwyd, is one of those rare survivors – a building so untouched by modern intervention that it feels like stepping straight into the past.
This remarkable building, a Grade II* listed structure, has been unoccupied for some time. Its walls, timbers, and windows are as they were centuries ago, making it not just a historic building, but a piece of standing archaeology. Every beam and brick tells a story, from its late medieval cruck-framed origins to the careful brick encasement of the 17th century.
Now, R. Moore Building Conservation is taking on the delicate task of bringing this building back to life – but with the lightest of touches. Our work is not about restoration in the traditional sense, but about preservation: keeping the building as it is, stabilising it, and ensuring it continues to stand as a tangible link to the past.
In an age where so much history is erased or rebuilt beyond recognition, places like this remind us of the power of what remains. It’s a glimpse into another time – and thanks to R. Moore Building Conservation’s careful work, it will stay that way for generations to come.
